COIN CEREMONY

Here's a challenge for ya.  Next time you are on a ship, check all over to see where the coins are.  Many of the crew members don't even know.  Our family hunted for them for a while, and finally found them outside on the top deck.

The Konningsdam was built at the Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Italy.  Following tradition, two coins were welded to the ship's forward mast for good luck.   These gold coins bear the image of His Majesty King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands.  The word koning means "king" in Dutch and the ship's name pays honor to the first king of the Netherlands in over a century.
