AMSTERDAM

I was asked this morning if I thought any cars actually fell into the canals in Amsterdam.  Here's what I found....
  • From 35 - 50 cars fall into the canals every year.  Their Fire Dept. has a special unit for this type of thing.
  • I read there have been 53 deaths in the last few years in the canals and 52 of them were from accidentally falling.  (I'm amazed I'm not one of those statistics.)
  • Consistently I read the number of bikes pulled out of the canals every year is close to 15,000.  Fishing for bicycles is a full time occupation for the city.

I'm guessing they find a whole lot of other things besides bikes and cars as well.
